A multitude of gilt silver bead-like ornaments strung on a cord of red cloth fiber, with six-pointed star shaped clasp plates at its ends. Such ornaments would be worn by noblemen of the Toba Batak people of North Sumatra, typically as an adornment on the outside of a turban like headcloth (ulos). The photograph below, taken some time before 1945, shows just such an ornament, worn by a Batak nobleman who is identified as “Sir Sidamanik”.
